Allowing Ourselves to Feel Our Feelings

Allowing Ourselves to Feel Our Feelings

As a tantra yoga teacher I don’t struggle with the poses, I struggle with feeling the feelings the poses bring up for me and I struggle with staying in my body.

I often have to remind myself that resistance is an emotion. When I allow myself to feel the resistance and the struggle of being with my feelings, I can go deeper in the asanas.

I hate how frustration, resentment, anger and impatience feel in my body so I am always tempted to shut them down and check out and switch on Netflix.

Ironically these emotions tend to be the emotions that show up most for me in yoga or when I work out with my personal trainer.

I spent years running from my anger and frustration, so these emotions have been suppressed, so it’s no wonder these are the emotions I feel most when I feel into my body, because part of me also wants to go into the story about why I feel the way I feel.

It’s natural for the mind to want to be stuck in the story or to even create a story, but the minute we go into the mind and get sucked into the story, we start playing mind games and stop being present with the body.

There are 2 truths I have learned about money and the importance of being:

1. In business and money related stuff, we often think that the things that shift our finances or grow our business is what we’re doing or saying, which is not true. It’s actually who we are being when we do or say those things that changes everything.

The state of being is more important than the state of doing. It’s why I can work 2 - 3 hours a day now and get "better results" in my work and life than I did when I was working 8 hours.

The universe and everything in it is not reacting to my doing or saying, but to my being, to my essence and energy.

I actually wrote a blog post 3 years ago about this and I think I am only fully grasping this now: https://www.wealthy-money.com/blog/the-paradox-of-becoming-vs-doing

2. This is the real work in this life - the inner work and healing. The real work is staying in my body, being in my energy and being present and aligning from there. Yoga has taught me this.

Healing is key because trauma impacts our energy, it invisibizes us from ourselves and changes the way we show up in the world. Trauma alters us on the deepest levels of our being.

I feel this is why I was guided to train in tantra yoga, because the practice is less about the poses and more about being in the pose and being present.
